New International Modernism In the 21st century, ideas, practices and technologies spread almost instantaneously around the world. Despite these precedents, the regulatory and building code hurdles for implementation of these systems in North America and the realization of their full potential persists. The global precedent of using new wood structural systems in 10 story buildings and 100 meter tall wind turbine towers already exists. The societal aim to continually reduce the environmental impact of the built environment has been coupled with recent technological advancements in timber manufacturing and fabrication. Working at Every Scale With offices in Rome, Paris, and Shenzhen, Studio Fuksas has designed enormous buildings such as the 5.4-million-square-foot Shenzhen Bao’An International Airport in south China, and the 2.1-million-square-foot Fiera Milano trade fair complex in Italy.
